West Side StoryThe first week's runs went well. We had an almost full house on both Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday had around 400 people.
Friday night (opening night) was incredible. We had so much energy, both from it being opening night, and because one of the Sharks works for Red Bull and he had gave us all a bunch of free Red Bulls. Both 'Jet Song' and 'Officer Krupke' got loud cheering and hooting and hollering, and after 'Cool' we heard some guy in the audience say, "Oh yeah!" Overall it went well.
Saturday we tried to avoid the traditional '2nd show letdown,' but despite our best efforts, it was beginning to look that way. In the Prologue mini-fight I was running to my position and got smacked in the jaw by another shark's errant elbow. He hit me so hard that his arm went numb! Then another cast member, the one who threw him (thus timing it perfectly to hit my jaw) was so freaked out over the incident that she missed her entrance cue, causing some more improv on our part to keep the show rolling. However, the 'Jet Song' and then 'Something's Coming' brought the show back upward on the trajectory course, with only slight turbulence in the the Rumble, when Riff actually punched Bernardo.
Sunday was probably a mix of both. Not as energized as Friday's show, but started and ended with a great energy, basically staying even keeled. Saturday's show started out low but ended a bit higher than Sunday's - however Sunday stayed consistent.
