2.5 Weeks till Brasil!

I had my 3rd practice with the Likha, and the songs are getting more familiar to me. I must admit that I really couldn't stand Spanish style Rondalla music, but now it's starting to grow on my big time. I haven't met the dancers but I feel one important point in order to play with a group, or just be in a group, is to be able to join in with their energy. I'm feeling less like an outsider.

Tomorrow will be my first practice with the dance troupe. I feel like a blue-chip rookie who can't wait for my first day of the baseball season.

Rondalla

After almost one month of no organized music, I went and practiced with the Philippine folkdance troupe Likha (read Baby Blog). Through a bit of luck, I'll be going with them in August to Nova Prata, Brasil, for an international folkdance festival.

I'll be playing bass, and luckily the part is not too hard. Sort of like the Oom pah pah of the tuba in polka bands.

But I'm having fun. I've always wanted to be a part of a rondalla. In fact, I had some grand scheme to create a PCN Rondalla, and rent us out to play for other colleges' PCNs. Live music is always better.

Anyway, it's Friday and got nothin' to do except veg. Have a great holiday weekend.
