Die Zauberflote

A month of hard core singing rehearsals is almost done in preparation for SFSU's production of W.A. Mozart's opera, Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute). Monday is when we start doing the full musical run throughs in front of the whole cast and crew. Then we start the staging. Luckily, our director, Barbara Damashek, is a well known person within the broadway and stage world. In fact, she wrote a musical which earned her three tony award nominations (though I'm not sure if she actually won yet.)

It's a big thing to be a part of a joint production. This show is the collaboration of the music and theater departments, which means that the orchestra and opera specialists do the music, and then the theater donates the staging director, tech crew and costumes. The costumes are going to be sweet!

Monday is the first full run through in front of everyone.

Dates for Magic Flute:
April 22-23, 29-30,
May 6-7 [or whatever the first weekend in May is]

6 for 6

We finished up the performances of Tatarin the weekend of the 27-29. I must say that it felt very good to be back on the Filipino American arts scene again. And I also made a bunch of new friends across the bay at CSU Hayward. There are many talented people and they are also cool to kick it with to boot. Again, in case you're wondering how it went, check out their website: http://www.revivalarts.org

Now it's on to school again. I'm doing the crazy guy thing: 3 real classes, 2 ensembles, 1 opera, a total of 21 units! The opera will be in May and I'll post the updates when they come up.

I also might be going to Brazil this year as a member of a rondalla!! How sweet is that!

The only bummer so far is that I had to drop myself out of KulArts' SONS Project, which is a performance piece about the Filipino American Mens' Experience. But I wish them the best of luck and I have no regrets about dropping that for Tatarin.
