Almost over!
I have a take home final in music theory [plus a bunch of late homework, but hey, I need the credit] and then a binder for the brass instruction class.
Then I'm done! I put in major time for my music history class [a total of 9.5 hours on Saturday/Monday] so when I took it Tuesday morning I blared through it.
Actually on Monday was my end of semester voice juries. I had to pick an early spot, so I got to school at 845 so I could warm up for the juries which were at 10 am. I sang 'Du Bist Wie Eine Blume' by Robert Schumann and 'O Del Mio Amato Ben' by Stephano Donaudy. After I finished singing, one of the voice faculty, Dr. Deeter, asked me, "Now tell me again why you haven't auditioned for Opera Workshop these past two year?"
Then I ran into her outside with my voice teacher. I commented that I should learn an aria to audition with, and Dr. Deeter said, "Please. You can sing 'Row, row, row your boat' for all I care!" [Which meant, according to another teacher, that I'm already in.]
The only thing is that I don't feel like Classical voice is natural for me. I feel like I force it and it isn't something that just flows from me, like jazz. But when a voice teacher says something like that to me, I can't deny that I must be doing something right.
Opera. Ha! I used to only listen to the overtures [purely instrumental] and never the singing. Someone told me that I might be converted yet.
Hardly. But I'm not adverse to opening another space within me to make room for Classical voice/Opera.

I've been too tired after school lets out to do much posting. But for a quick summary of what's been going on:
- Sang Mozart's Requiem last weekend. I've waited 20 years for that.
- My performances are done for the semester. Just two finals plus voice jury.
- Sadly, as the semester ends and everyone goes their own way for summer, I slowly realize that I'm going to miss people that I've grown quite fond of -- some are only going home for the summer but a couple of others are moving far away [New York and London to name a couple of places]
No progress in the love life category. Oh well.
Not much else right now...need rest.

What a weekend!
First off, my a cappella group, the SFSU Baytones, finally had our first performance all the way down in Calabasas, Socal. We actually didn't do bad at all. We had the honor of sharing the stage with Naked Voices from UC Santa Barbara, Awaken from UCLA, Hart High School and also Calabasas High School. I drove down on Thursday night, but because I took a wrong turn somewhere we didn't end up in Socal until about 7 hours later, around 430 am. Then the hotel cancelled our reservation but ended up finding a room for us anyway. We woke up Friday morning, then rehearsed all day long until 5. The show started at 730. We got many props from the other groups, especially as how we didn't start practicing with our set group of people until 2 months ago. Then we left early Saturday morning and got back into SF at around 7 am.
I then went to my parents' house in Alameda and then crashed until noon. Then I got up and went over to St. Albert's Priory/Chapel in Oakland to sing at a wedding. It turns out that one of my friends used to sing with the group Epic Voices [from Antioch] and she needed a duet partner to sing "The Prayer" from Andrea Bocelli's Sogno album. It's the song with Celine Dion. We got to sing that accompanied by a violin and cello. But unfortunately I couldn't go to the reception because I had to go to work.
Overall, the great weekend was capped by a Mother's Day dinner in Alameda.
Now, just two more performances to go...this weekend, Mozart's Requiem.

KARMA
There was this girl I knew who really liked me, yet I was pretty indifferent toward her. She kept waiting for me to call her so we could go watch a Disney movie, but yet I never got around to it. I knew she was waiting too, yet, I felt no attraction to her in the 'relationship' sorta way, so I was really passé about it.
There was another girl, a few years ago, who swore that my vibes toward her were all about us getting together, yet to me it was nothing more than a little flirting.
What's my point?
I think the karma is coming back around.
On a musical note....
This year's version of the SFSU Chamber Singers was a pretty special bunch. We had an awesome tour and because of the level of talent and musicianship our director wanted us to record our repertoire. So this week we'll be at Temple Emmanuel recording. Our CD hopefully comes out by fall, along with our Winter compilation.
The University Chorus will be performing Mozart's Requiem on May 15 and 16 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on 18th and Diamond in the Castro. The performance on the 15th starts at 8 pm and the one on the 16th starts at 730 pm. Tix I think are $10.
I was asked to be a special guest performer with the Palabuniyan Kulintang Ensemble. Master Kalanduyan asked me personally to play. Yet because of my work schedule I had to graciously turn him down. Damn I was asked by a Master and had to turn him down.
Only 1/2 a month left till finals, juries and the girl I'm digging on to leave for home for the summer...
[do do do do do..."She keeps on passin' me by..."]
