The Baby Blog

A blog of the days in the life of Mighty Mom as she goes about raising her sons...and saving the world while she's at it.

On my way to work...

Friday, April 29, 2005
You would think Friday traffic is lighter... NOT! For some reason there seemed to be a lot more cars on the freeway this morning.. did my 5 minute stop at the Safeway gas station make that much of a difference?

It's been 3 weeks. I like my new job. It is the same in terms of dealing with scholarship announcements. Different in that I do not spend as much time "knowing students". They don't do individual search assistance, just hand out general information. My boss is open to individual help in terms of reading essays, talking with students as to why they might of lost out and reviewing their overall application. She is VERY good about returning phone calls and inquiries that come her way. I can't wait to learn more and be given more responsibility. Next year I will be in charge of the selection committee and presentations to the faculty/staff!

Back to my title. On my way to work I realized that I used to drive in this area almost every weekend to visit my (now ex) boyfriend back in college. My new V-town used be my marker of "okay twenty more minutes". (Weekender would know what I'm talking about!) In fact, those were the days when I first met Voodoo! Then I think, what if I did agree to that interview, and my commute was cut in 1/2! That would be awesome! Then I've long passed it, and onto the Capitol Freeway, stuck in traffic.

Damoomoo finished the boys' bed! They spent more time sliding, then actually sleeping in it. By morning I found both of them on the air mattress with daddy. The funny part, AJ was totally laying across Mio, and he wasn't disturbed by it one bit!

What's that word!

Thursday, April 28, 2005
For the life of me I can't remember the word that defines an "illness" when you just fall asleep! The reason why I was thinking about it was because of Mio. NO, he doesn't have it, but here are a couple stories:

Story 1: We were all doing our thing about 2 weeks after moving in. AJ and Mio were playing in the den. AJ on the computer (as always, "working"), and Mio watching a DVD. I hear them talking and just making regular noise. Then AJ comes out to go downstairs. I ask where Mio is, and he replies, "upstairs". I figure he is okay, but I don't hear anything. I go upstairs and find him sleeping under the TV with his tummy with his legs tucked in under his belly causing his butt to stick up!!

Story 2: I went upstairs to watch girly stuff (Sex & the City Season 5) while the boys were chillin' with Daddy watching the NBA playoff game. I went downstairs around 11pm to see if the boys were ready to go to sleep. Damoomoo is on the couch with AJ laying across his stomach, and he asks me where Mio is?! I look at him and tell him that he is here! I look on the floor, and there he is in the same tummy down, butt up position!!! We laugh because daddy said that he didn't even know! He saw him get down from the couch but assumed he went upstairs, I guess he never made it!

Sidenote: Nanna told me once that around his nap time one day, he was trying to get on the recliner chair to sit with him. She thought he was just playing. But soon after realized that he fell asleep standing against the chair!

So what's that word?

Oh for those who read my comment on Mrs. Mathmajor's blog, I did wash Damoomoo's g-string by hand when we were touring PI in '01!! With a Tide bar and everything! Oh, and it was the blue and gray cheetah print, too!! hehehee Now that's love! I will NOT let my hubby go out on stage with a bahag AND dirty g-string! Boys who had to wear a bahag after him, better be thankful, too!!!

TV!

Tuesday, April 26, 2005
Last Wednesday or Thursday we finally got our cable installed... FINALLY, I could actually sit down or listen to something else other than The Lizzie McGuire Movie, The Incredibles, Shark Tale, Jurassic Park, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story (1 and 2). Since then we have been watching sports, news, and more of the same DVD's!

Anyways, on Sundays before Damoomoo's softball game we trekked out to San Mateo Good Guys who was having this HUGE sale on all their open box/display items. We are shopping for a new TV, so we went... and was it worth it! We drove home with this.

To add to our TV entertainment, Damoomoo got HD cable installed as well... WOW it's so clear and big... I'm spoiled!

The funny thing with the TV was that it came with the huge bubble wrap! AJ had a blast popping the bubbles. First he'd start one by one, then he jumps on it! The whole time Mio is laughing one minute, crying the next! I tried to help him jump on them, too but he would lift his leg up to his chest to prevent even touching them!!! We couldn't help but laugh. The cutest though was when Damoomoo was putting the Ikea TV stand together for the TV, Mio was there with a screwdriver trying to help daddy... AJ, all he did was grab his cars and run them all over the wood!

Oh my little joys in life!

Furniture...

Wednesday, April 20, 2005
We went from very little to have it, but now don't have time to put it together. On Sunday we took advantage of the "no sales tax" sale (and our "roommates" employee discount) at Ikea to buy some needed furniture.

Here's our list:
1. Boys loft bed with slide. No, it's not high, it's actually lower than average bunk beds, and we can put a mattress on the bottom to make a "bunk bed".
2. Book shelf for the family room. The kind with no backing so the orange on our walls will shine through
3. Cabinet for the dining room or family room. This one is low and narrow. Our original idea was to put it behind the couch, but the couch ended up taking a lot more space. Next idea is to put it in the dining room in lieu of a china cabinet, but it doesn't really match the table! Now, maybe find space in the family room.
4. TV stand for the Master bedroom. Since we are now headed towards a tv to fit in the TV nook, our other TV will be in our room. Really heavy, so guys, Damoomoo will need lots of help carrying that one upstairs.
5. Boys Wardrobe. I needed more drawer space for the boys clothes. This wardrobe gave a little more "flex" space than a normal drawer, and it matched the buzz lightyear blue!
6. 2 standing lamps for our bedroom. We needed light!
7. Knick knacks for the kitchen, like a jars for my coffee beans, sugar, pot holders, etc.
8. King size comforter, duvet cover, bedsheeets, matching pillow cases!

So, that took us the whole day... exhausted! But like I said, it just added to our mess in the garage that we just finally narrowed down. Damoomoo took a van load of stuff to the dump on Saturday, and still brought some more stuff from his parents house... He may have to make another trip.

LIKHA
Friday was my "return" trip to the Comets, and my final performance before I go on "sabbatical". With my very strict hours, and commute, I noticed that I don't get to spend quality time with my family. So, along with my disappointment in this year's casting for the annual performance, I decided to take a long break. Will I miss it.. Of course. I loved performing. I loved being on stage. I loved the family feeling that I get when I'm doing anything related Likha. Will I go back... who knows. I only want to go back for a reunion show of some sorts, or if Damoomoo returns with me. They are planning on France next season, and it will be our 5th anniversary, so that might be worth returning to. We'll have to see! Right now, I want to enjoy my free time with my boyz and get a handle on this house!

As for the show it self... it was low turnout* sad cuz it was free!! It was a marathon of a show...messed up during my Asik, even had my shirt popping open again!!! Have my boobs gotten that big?! But in all, I came, I performed, I bowed!

So for now, I "curtsy" to you all who have come out to see me perform, who have excused me from events, parties, and activities that I could not attend to due to practice/performances. Salamat!

Too much play time!

Damoomoo has been on "vaca" for 2 weeks now. Most of the time has been spent running to Costco, prepping the house, running to Home Depot, painting, running to Home Depot again, moving, running to *sigh* to Wal-Mart for supplies, unloading, unpacking, and in between, keeping a watchful eye on the little ones!

Unfortunately I think it is starting to back fire that the boys have been home. AJ has grown WAY TOO attached to daddy, and there is no sense of routine for them anymore. AJ doesn't even sing his "songs" from school!

Next Wednesday will be their first day at the new babysitter, and Damoomoo's first week of commuting to work, while dropping the kids off! Oh boy, we'll have to wait and see how this goes.

I have to admit that I am getting a bit spoiled... waking up with only enough time to get myself ready. Not worrying about the kids, getting them dressed, cleaned, etc. I do all that when I get home. I am a bit worried when the time will come, when they can transfer to the "center" at my work... will I get to the office on time?

The house is SLOWLY coming along. I haven't had much time to put everything away... by the time I come home, we run to Costco, Target, etc to pick up essentials... OMG I will not mention how much we spent at Costco yesterday!!! But I did get my new coffee maker and a big bag of Hazelnut Coffee beans!! Coffee anyone?! I also got my first Costco card...hehehe

Well, time to get back to work... just found out that I may not make it to Vancouver in June... It doesn't look like I can get the time off from work!! Oh the backlashes of starting a new job... I will barely make it the performance this Friday, also!

Back to the grind...

Wednesday, April 06, 2005
Okay the commute from in-laws to work is LOOOOOOOONG... especially when I get to the Capitol freeways where 2 or 3 different freeways begin to merge. Luckily my boss was kind enough to explain a "back road" way to campus, which gets me off the freeway earlier, and straight to my "Staff Parking".

It's really nice to be so official, paying into retirement, signing up benefits, getting your first set of keys, meeting everyone (who still think I am a student worker!, and look at me funny when I'm walking through their office). The bad part is I lost my time flexibility. Must be in by 8 lunch at 12, out by 5, get official approval for days off, doctor's appts, etc. Which means that I still have to get approval for Vancouver, now! Yikes!!

I am not able to take off during the first 2 weeks of school in Fall/Spring. I even have to stay extended hours during those peak times. I have already been given the heads up about parking, which will suck at these times as well. Boy so much to learn. I am still trying to figure out the best places to eat. Well my lights just turned off (motion sensored!), and it's noon on my clock! gotta eat...

catch up later

Ma'am, here's your keys...

TO YOUR HOME!

Yesterday we the keys to our home, and for the first time, saw the real potential and visualize "our colors"! It's sooo exciting, except I don't have the "eye" for design. I am the kind that can picture it in my head, but when it comes to actually putting together, it NEVER comes out right. So, this is why I am REALLY scared at picking out colors for the paint.

The only no-brainer was the boys' bedroom, which will be a "Buzz Lightyear Space Command" theme, already picked out by Behr Disney's Collection. Furniture in the family room and master bedroom have already been picked out, but I could not figure out the wall color. I will tell you this... it will be bold and bright! If you see it, just lie to me, or blame it on D'moomoo cuz he picked out the actual paint this morning! I did color visualizer on Glidden, but we wer buying Behr paint. The visualizer lets you choose color on the furniture and accent pieces, where Behr does not.

We are in a little time crunch because we want to get the most out of the empty house. Monday, D'moomoo will get a truck, friends/family and move the stuff out of storage into the house. Me, however, I will begin my new job. I personally do not want to commute far, so I am really putting on the pressure of moving. Bad I know. This part of transitioning sucks.

We will live on blankets/air mattresses for now, until all the beds are bought/delivered. But I can't wait to use my shower, and bathtub... and hang my clothes in my walk-in closet. Funny story: in our closet, I told D'moomoo to "pick his spot". AJ heard this and saw what we were doing. So when Uncle "A-team" came to help, and we gave him a tour, AJ showed him his spot... THE HALLWAY CLOSET! I thought that was so funny!

So, later on that day, Mio had his 2-year checkup. Nurse said that he may be suffering from allergies. Speech has improved, but I told her that I would like to wait another six months before I consider actual consultation/evaluation. He got 2 shots, one in each arm. He didn't cry! What a trooper! When he headed back, D'moomoo and A-team were at home depot again to get the paint. He decided to paint the ceiling... and planned to start that afternoon... What an adventure that was...

NOTE: if you are painting on a carpet that you wish to keep... do not use a plastic tarp. The guys used one borrowed from my kuya who painted months ago... left over paint got onto the carpet, and our carpet is light!! Let's just say it really ruined my evening! Hopefully today will be better!
