My little man, AJ is 3 today!!! wow, 3 years ago I had my first baby... Can i tell my birthing story...
7months pregnant and our stupid Board of Directors terminate all of us via fax. Close all the bank accounts so phone, energy and other bills, and paychecks were not paid!! Brahma just got laid off from his computer teching gig, and we signed a lease for a condo! We still managed to move in, and I was home for 2 months awaiting our big day. Watching the 9/11 occur was frightening as I wondered what kind of world AJ was being brought into. Went through my checklist of things over and over and over again.
My mom arrived from the Philippines, and as soon as we got home I started to feel contractions! We waited, my mom in bed with me, and the contractions got stronger. We woke up Brahma, and he drove at 1:30 am to Alta Bates. False alarm... went back home and they said to walk... so we did, but as we walked around Raley's I had to stop every 5 or so minutes for a contraction to pass... this may be it!!
They didn't stay consistent until after we went to bed. Clock by my side, they finally reached a point for me to go, and Brahma waited a little longer this time.. but at 2:00 am we were off to the hospital... This time it was for real, 4 cm dilated and getting stronger. I immediately agreed without hesitation to have the epidural, and I was in heaven.. able to sleep and not feel a thing, especially when that catheter went in.
Hours passed by, and more family began to arrive. I literally had an audience, and by 4pm I didn't care who was there during the exams!!! Unfortunately I was dilating and they had to monitor baby's heartbeat cuz it would get slower... at 5pm or so, they said that we may have to opt for a c-section... and they did... at 6:40-ish my baby was born!!! We began our new lives as parents. We spent the next 4 days in the hospital, me trying to recover from the surgery, and Brahma was back and forth preparing our home.
So today, I look back at his first steps, his first words, and now his first potty trip, first day I sent him to daycare. And look forward to my conversations with my baby, and getting him off the bottle.
New phrases include: "Mommy, I want to be power rangers!" So we put on the costume
"Are you serious?", "What did you say to me?", "Mio, stop that!! Do you want time-out?", and of course his many talents of talking on his cell phone, drumming to his own beat, and dancing around in circles!
