TRANSPORT: bus #1
WEATHER: cold and rainy
TUNES: what more can i say, jay z
this is the first time i'm traveling with groceries. just one bag. sunshine is coming over for dinner, she requested sinigang baboy, i requested pumpkin pie (it's halloween!) took a while to get home because of traffic. it was already dark when i got outside after work. damn daylight savings time. i asked one of our interns from japan what she thought of daylight savings time, since it was her first year dealing with it. she said it was weird. i personally don't like it either when i wake up an hour earlier, since i already wake up early as it is.
an old WHITE lady sat next to me today. i think my attraction of the elderly generation cuts across cultures. glad to know i'm an equal opportunity bus rider. had my first experience with someone sick next to me also. fuck. that's gonna suck when it gets colder and all the workaholic sickies infect everyone on the bus. it was reminiscent of chem 194 lecture hall during winter quarter at UCD. germs anyone?
TRANSPORT: bus #2, then on foot for 13 blocks
WEATHER: cloudy, 55 degrees
TUNES: make room, alkhaholics; flex, mad cobra
today i took the #2 bus in front of my house in stead of walking down the hill to catch the #1. didn't feel like walking. but when i had to transfer busses by pike place, i didn't feel like waiting for the bus. so i walked the rest of the way. it seemed closer than it really was. i mean, it wasn't long either, just about a mile and a half, but i was warm enough to say "fuggit" and walked the rest of the way. since it was halloween, i saw a few cats in costume, but when u get down to the pioneer square area, it looks like everyone's in costume down in that piece. happy halloween.

TRANSPORT: bus #36, transfer to #17
WEATHER: raining like hell
i've acquired the skill of jumping on any bus and getting to where i need to go. bus drivers are nice and will give you help if you need it. today was nice right up until i had to get off the bus and transfer. walked 2 blocks in the pouring rain and finally got on the right bus to belltown. i thought the bus driver had something on his nose, i moved in closer to see that the something was vitiligo. good thing i didn't tell him to wipe his face. he woulda fucked me up. caught up with sunshine at her work and we jetted in the jet to mccormick's on lake union for $2 cheesburger happy hour. fried food on the weekends only! (friday night is considered weekend in my book. my food's getting cold. out.
TRANSPORT: sunshine's car, transfer to bus #17
WEATHER: sunny! but cold! (prt!)
went 2 work with sunshine, then i walked a few blocks to the bus stop on 2nd ave. today i saw this big ass dude on the bus. not taba (fat) or anything, but tall and just, well, big. his head almost reached the top of the bus. i would say there was about an inch and a half of clearance there. talagang crazy. and that's pretty much it. haha
again, i was taking the 2nd ave busses, ain't shit on there but business people. nothin' fun to report on. chick in front of me looked like molly ringwald after she cut her hair short. um, yeh. thats about it. out

TRANSPORT: bus #13
WEATHER: cold and cloudy
it took me a friggin' hour to get home today damn. i would have got home in the same time if i walked. weak. i was trying to blog on the bus but i got car sick. not good. i get car sick pretty easy, sometimes even when i'm driving as well. but nothing makes it worse than trying to read something while moving. two women were trying to get to kerry park, the site of the famous view that seattle is known for (think space needle in the middle with skyline in the background). was kinda irritated that the bus driver was talking to them for about 5mins while people were waiting to get off. then i found out they were tourists and went back to playing pusoy dos on my phone. this is my stop, out.
TRANSPORT: bus #1
WEATHER: chilly as fuck, but sunny
took the usual bus today. nothing too funny to mention. i had dragged this shelf lamp with me to take to the office, only to realize when i got on the bus that the lamp won't fit the shelf. fuck. now i gotta take that shit home.
again, no one wanted to sit next to me except for an old api lady. well, she wasn't that old, but yeh i'm starting to realize that the reason why old ladies sit next to me is cuz there are mostly old ladies taking the bus on this line i guess. it's better than stinky guy sitting next to me. there are a lot of those up here, trust me.
i saw a baby in a car to the left of the bus, she was looking up at the people on the bus, i waved to her, and i think she realized the people in the bus can see her too. she waved back and smiled as she hid her face in her car seat. not a bad way to start the day.

TRANSPORT: bus #13
WEATHER: Sunny but cold
wouldn't you know it, another old lady next to me. but yeh this time, manang knows me so she don't count. She works for another agency in the building. haha i'm going to hell talkin shit about old ladies, i know.
anyway, there's this other lady right in front of me, she has a "hair bear" hairstyle. why? no clue. it's not an aquanet moment or anything, but she does have that wavy-bangs thing goin' on for sure. i think someone forgot 2 tell her that shit is played out. It's like me tryin to rock a hi-top fade. but who am 2 criticize?
TRANSPORT: bus #1
WEATHER: partly sunny
since starting to ride the bus for about a month now, it never fails. if i'm on the bus early and watch the people pile on, only the old chinese or other api ladies choose to sit next to me. the other day, three of them surrounded me, one to my side, one in front and one across. they spoke in some chinese dialect other than mandarin or cantonese (yes i can tell the difference) it was funny cuz the whole bus was quiet listening to these three ladies talk. they didnt give a damn, talking and laughing in their own language. it was kinda cool. they felt free to do that. i'd give a whole 3 dollars to see what they were talkin bout. they were probably sayin shit like "hey is it just me or is every dumbass on the bus listening to us?" and then the other would probably say "yeh they can't understand us anyway, fuck em... so did anyone see me absolutely kill it in mah jong yesterday morning?" this is my stop. out.

so the bus system up here is called "metro" and is the equivalent of "muni" in SF. in the past month, i've learned the bus system up here pretty well and enjoy spending an hour of my day (round trip) with complete strangers.
it makes for good blogging.
that is of course if i can remember the stuff that goes on. in my advanced age, i find it harder to remember trivial shit. i'm not the man i used to be. and i think that's a good thing. anyway, i digress... back to the bus system.
the biggest thing i noticed is that certain busses carry certain types of individuals. the third street busses have more street folk on there, the second street busses have more quiet ass professionals. i prefer the ones with the street folk, more diversity, more stories to tell, you get the picture.
overall, people are nice in seattle. i've been informed by numerous parties that it is proper custom to greet your bus driver with a "hello" and a "thanks" upon departure. people usually scoot to the window seats so that people can sit next to them. and when you argue with a significant other on the bus, it is also customary to involve the parties around you. this i've observed many times as other bus riders offer advice to said couple. of couse this usually happens during the evening commute.
with the exception of the closure of the bus tunnel, i find my bus riding experience rather enjoyable. and from today on, i will entertain all three of my readers with whimsical anecdotes from my adventures on the bus from now on.

i blog to you live and direct from yakima, wa. in the middle of washington state. it's way different than the coast, less green and less trees. it reminds me of home.
the city of yakima reminds me of modesto, small town with cable tv. you can tell cuz the youth listen to kanye'.
anyway, my dad told me that my lola first moved out to yakima when she first came to from the PI*. her husband was from yakima. i think my lola didn't like it here. too cold probably.
anyway, why am i here? well i'm at the washington state prevention summit, reppin' my new agency up here in the northwest. doin the whole learnin and shmoozin' thing. conference is cool, been here for 3 days. leavin tomm morning. get gas, get breakfast, and get the fuck back 2 seattle.
homesick like a mug.
there's nothing like knowing nobody in a place u never been to before. and then add the fact that the terrain reminds me of home. geez, can u rub it in more? feels like when i flew in to nyc not knowin even where to go... at least i have a map this time. and i met a few people here that could help me out at the job. at least i get free internet and i go home 2 civilization tomm. yes!
*(sorry my philippines readers, it's PI to me not "phils")

soon, i'll add a sillouhette(sp?) of the space needle to the graphic above 2 symobolize my transition to the northwest.
until then, the blog will suffice, which is kind of the main purpose of this site, diba? prrt
anyway, a month ago, i moved up to seattle, my life in a 17ft u-haul that cost me $500. bastards. so far it's been nice, finally starting to get my place together, fitting in to the job. wrote my first grant (even though it's a mini-grant) went to my first shmoozing and networking meeting.
the reality of the move hits me every now and then. i had a moment at a grocery store up here where i realized that i am now a resident of the northwest. i was perusing down the aisles gathering supplies when i caught myself thinging "i don't need garlic, i have that at home-" nope i don't have that at home.
i also got sick in the first few weeks of being up here. perhaps it was the combination of stress from moving & new job and also the change in weather that got me down. but i'm stronger than west nile now, although i still am congested. it feels like my seasons were fast-forwarded to november. or maybe more specifically, a seattle-septmeber feels like a sacramento-november. i check my mac weather widgets regularly, comparing the weather in sac, vallejo and seattle respectively.
i guess i'm into self-torture.
i really don't miss the heat of sacto, but i will miss the sun. luckily, there's enough sunshine up here just for me. (sha na na na)*
(*think of the end of the theme to family ties)
