POSTER BOY
730AM: I find myself up already and driving to "Coco's" restaurant near arden mall in sacramento. I have been asked previously to speak on behalf of my agency to a local chapter of the kiwanis club.

i had no idea why i was speaking to them, or why i even agreed to do it. the kiwanis person was frantically looking for a speaker for their meeting and i guess i didn't have a good enough excuse not to go...

but i'm glad i went.

i was greeted by an elderly woman who kept referring to me as "younger generation" flattering at age 31. the room was full of people ready 2 bolt 2 work after this breakfast meeting of professionals.

minority head count 1 asian american older gentleman and a woman of arab american descent who swears she's not a terrorist (i could have sworn i just said "i'm filipino, what's your ethnic background? but i guess she heard it differently.)

so i was supposed 2 speak about my agency and what we do. i decided to start with a little about myself, convinced that being the only filipino male, bald, dark and with earrings could be too much for a room of my euro american bretheren to digest at such an early hour.

i guess it was my way of saying "fuckers, i'm for real... recognize!" but in a nice way without the bad words and demand for respect. this is the second time i "offically" stated i was a professional with a master's. it still hasn't fully sunken in. i still trip when i write the "MS" after my name. for me the title doesn't fit that well. i guess i will have 2 make it.

anyway, i talk and proceed to as we say in the entertainment industry "kill 'em" with my factoids on the A/PI culture in Sacto and knowledge of cultural issues. i answered questions like i was barry bonds at the plate, facing a pitcher in the third grade, home run after home run.

and the audience was grateful.

hopefully we can tap back into kiwanis of sacramento for a new found partnership. a lot of people came up to me and wanted to know how to get involved. i was pretty hyped that i can get mainstream heads 2 understand cultural relevance and the issues the API community face in sacramento. now if only i can get hooks like this in seattle...

in due time.

AMBASSADOR SEAT UP FOR GRABS
this dude, Carl W. Ford Jr. appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to support accusations of harassment against bush's current nomination, john bolton.

''I have never seen anyone quite like Mr. Bolton,'' Ford testified under oath. ''He abuses his authority with little people.''

so wait a minute... 2 comments here. stop me if you see them coming. then wipe your face after *de dum tsss* (if u didn't get that, you're probably better off)

comment #1: so the next debate is what determines someone to be "little." what is bolton's height cut off where he starts abusing his authority? inquiring filipinos want to know.

comment #2: i find it ironic yet sad that mr. ford, who is quick to point out the inadequacies in mr. bolton, also subscribes to the same notion of classifying people. perhaps it is his word choice, or perhaps i am a tad bit more cynical this AM.

eh, either way.
