DRUMMER BOY
agent orange and his cousin irish whiskey came through to the crib last night.

purpose: to acquire a drumkit for agent orange.

we hit up steve's music on del paso, skip's music and guitar center. i was let down at steve's. kits were more expensive than when i bought my kit a year ago. i guess it was luck on my part.

skip's was even worse so we had to head to the GC as a final attempt.

yours truly had the responsibility of bartering with the GC floor persons. was able to get a new pearl kit with hardware for $500 straight up, no tax. brotha threw in some shitty hi hats and a crash cymbal to seal the deal.

tried to get irish whiskey to buy a bass. found out my new glasses made everything smaller. whiskey pointed at a bass she liked, i said "that's for babies, u don't want that". i reached up for it and it was bigger than i thought. took off my glasses and realized the bass was a full sized one.

wtf. i'm gonna return my glasses. fuck that.

told agent orange i'd buy him dinner if he spent over 400, so i held to my word and ordered 2 chicken caesar salads at dos coyotes along with a steak taco for irish.

irish was complaining about how agent orange didn't take her out. since i was feeling a little parched myself, i decided to do the gentleman thing and take everyone to the monkeybar in downtown. called up kato and the orange called the lizzo to meet up with us. all gravy.

irish introduced me to jamisen & seven. he will be my friend along with sapphire & seven. nothing beats henny and apple though. that's top notch. (u gotta make that henrock last).

kato saw a friend he knew from back in the day, but forgot his name. i did the "sup my name is CB, what's yours?" to unveil the mystery.

it woulda been ok if i didnt tell everyone else in the group that i was gonna do that. because when i did, everyone laughed. poor guy prob thought we were laughing at him because he was puti.

nah dog, we were laughing at you because kato didn't know your name.

anyway, i'm out to return my glasses. one thing i could see for sure with these things is that irish had some pretty eyes. like 2 black moons rising in a sea of clouds...

or was it 2 oreos in a glass of milk. *wiping glasses*

HOW DO I...
tell someone that I just met that i'm just like any other person out there. i may know a lot of stuff, and i may carry myself well or whatever, but i'm no better than any one else.

see, i even do stupid things like stick my head in a cardboard cut-out and take a picture.
this was at sears by the way. i got paid to do that! haha i was on the job getting a battery for work.

but yeh, i'm a regular cat just like everyone else.

-i use whatever toothpaste that comes with a free toothbrush
-i get mad when people cut me off on the freeway
-i take extra napkins when i go to a fast food place to stick in my glove compartment
-i grind my teeth in my sleep
-i'm allergic to pollen, dust, horses, cats, dogs & most plants
-i brought rice to KFC once (and i'd do it again)
-i wear my heart on my sleeve (sometimes)
-i prefer sleevless t shirts (ironic eh?)
-i love mango ice cream
-i'm lactose intolerant
-i have a bad back

so yeh, i'm nothing out of the ordinary, i'm just me...

AWAKE
time flows with perfect precision
crossing our paths together
in the form of electronic renditions
of life,
strife,
and other circuitry entailed.
testimonials bequeath soul in rhythmic form,
inhaled...
the pulchritude
of one certain individual
mad spiritual,
unequivocal
and seemingly true to life
one can only tell so much
just going with what feels right.

on more than one night,
connected and exchanged
life stories.
achievement, victories
heartache, abandonment, glory.
life, universal,
proved once again to be cyclical.
rejuvenating the heart
once broken and pitiful
into a drum of strength
beating a new rhythmic pathway
not for anyone else but the self
and um...

i'd like to keep it that way

BACK IN THE SWING
been slowly getting back into the whole basketball/exercise thing. played basketball each weekend and started running in the mornings again.

back still hurts

i need a new back. any volunteers? i'll pay black market value. this is the only time i'll actually feel 30 years old. other than that, nothing new.

oh and i just picked up an m-audio oxygen 8 midi controller for my ibook. shit is fat. only because i got hooked up. i would not pay full price for this device however. not worth the $139 it was going for at guitar center.

anyway...

i saw a used one at the guitar center presidents day sale and picked it up for $80. it was pretty tore up and "well-loved" to say the least. i install the drivers from the maudio webpage and set it up properly, but the shit didn't work.

i kept at it for another hour to no avail. so i went back to GC to see what they could do about it. i liked the price so i told them i'll keep it if they could show me it works. so for the next 1/2 hour, i was watching their tech guys have a crack at it.

say no go.

so homeboy says he can do an even exchange with a new one(!) and i was like "aight cool" the only thing is that it took another 1/2 hour for them to straighten all their shit out.

by this time, i realized that the store was very loud. there was a kid wandering around without his parents, some dick playing little jon and too $hort at volume 10 on the big speakers... another cat banging on a keyboard to another beat,

and a bunch of other fuckin guys just mulling around making the store hot.

mind you, i was wearing a wool coat and a sweater underneath. amazingly, i did not even care. it felt good to have a day off, even though i had class at 7pm that night, i didn't really trip.

then the manager comes by and says they can't do an even exchange but can give me a new one for $10 more. that still seemed fair to me so i agreed. then i waited ANOTHER half hour for that guy to do something.

luckily i had nothing better to do.

since i was getting a good deal, i wasn't really trippin' but i did notice i was waiting for one hell of a long time. i took my coat off, listened to three anouncements on the GC PA system about how "the parent of little blond daniel needs to get their fuckin kid already"

of course that's not what they said, but in my mind, it sounds like that

a bunch of people are trying to push their way to the counter and i'm just standing there looking at all the equipment i can't afford right now. torture.

yet somehow i endure.

finally, manager dude comes back, apologizes for the wait and tells me they'll do an even exchange since i've been so patient.

karma.

oh and the keyboard works great, thanks... i can now make beats anywhere. what!

LOVE IS GRAND
in lieu of valentine's day and the enormous marketing push for love during this time of the year, i will dedicate this blog to a new found love in my life...

yes, the new ibook g4 and agentCB hooked up last week. just in time for valentine's day. she's way lighter skinned than my past gf's but i don't think the culture thing will be an issue.

i will totally assimilate her ass.

she don't talk much and she doesn't complain if i hella use her and show her no love. haha, ok enough with my infatuation with this inanimate electronic object. on the real, this baby packs a punch even though it's only an 800MHz G4.

that's still faster than my desktop G4 at home.

i think it's panther (latest mac OS for all u pc heads) that has something to do with the speed but i dunno. it does what i need it to do and it does it a more than adequate job of handling my multimedia and office needs.

hell i even have a nintendo emulator running on that shit. wicked.

so anyway, happy valentine's day everyone. even if you don't have someone to celebrate with, who cares. it's just another day to celebrate love.

peace

RISING UP
today i started my new internship at sac city college. as an intern at the RISE program, i'm going to be in charge of outreaching to new students and helping facilitate workshops for people on academic probation.

i know this may not sound exciting, but what i like about this program is the population that we serve.
90% people of color. i thought that was pretty tight. something i like even more is how everyone hangs out and kicks it in the office.

different people: tongans, black, hmong, mexican, middle eastern, all kickin' it like it was nothing big. it's like they don't realize how rare an experience it is.

or maybe they do. and that's why they kick it in the office. good times.

it feels like home and it was only my first day.

THE COLLECTOR
i'm starting to get in the habit of collecting things. namely dvd's and playstation 2 games. dvd's are the more dangerous habit. i only have 3 games for the playstation 2. (not inculding about 20 old games from the original playstation.

but dvd's are dangerous for me. especially the used ones. i get the bulk of my dvd's from blockbuster. i dig in the previously viewed dvd section for cheap movies. my limit is 15 bucks. if a movie is over that, it's not worth getting, unless it's rare. the last dvd i bought was cheech n chong's "up in smoke" which i copped for 10 bucks from best buy.

haven't even watched the damn thing yet.

something about 10 dollar dvd's that gets me all the time. luckily i'm picky about the movies i buy or else i would have a bunch of adam sandler movies and probably the entire set of national lampoons vacation.

i used to fall for all the extra shit on dvd's like "deleted scenes" and the "making of " but watching most deleted scenes, i realize why they deleted them in the first place...

cuz the footage sucks.

with the exception of one deleted seen from "not another teen movie" i was at snayk eyz' house and we watched the deleted scenes and the most hilarious scene is on there, where there's this old lady writing a letter.

and you know how most movie's do it. as the person writes, there's a voiceover that reads the text of the letter as they write.
but in this scene.. ah. i dont want to give it away. if u have the movie, just watch it.

anyway, what sucks is that i started collecting movies when blockbuster first started selling their previously rented vhs tapes. i didnt have a dvd player then and the tapes would go for 5 bucks and the dvd's were something like 8-10 bucks.

so about 1/3 of my collection is on tape still, which makes me want to buy the dvd versions of those movies, which i already have... what a catch 22.
