SAND IN MY SHOES
today i biked across SF. took BART into the city and peeped out some of the numerous events happening in the city. i just happened to hit up the city today and there was hecka stuff going on.

first i hit up the folsom street fair. didn't go in because it cost 4 bucks. saw lots of people in leather, but i didn't feel like paying 4 bucks to gawk at fetishes and their respectable memorabilia.

after i got through the tenderloin, i biked my ass up the hayes street hill. that shit kicked my ass. i stopped as soon as i got to the painted ladies (think intro to the tv show "full house") and walked my bike the rest of the way.

next stop was the haight. had lunch at fat slice on haight and got lost in amoeba records for a while. and finally, i made the home stretch through golden gate park and planted my feet in the ocean for the first time in years.

something about the ocean makes me calm. perhaps it is because i am aquarius. then again, i don't really believe in that horoscope shit so maybe not.

either way, i had to wonder why my family ever left SF. today i made a decision that i'd like to live in SF when i get old.

for some reason the bike ride back was much shorter than the ride to the beach. i took the laguna all the way back to downtown, which was scary because there were cars all up in my shit.

i have never wished i had a bike helmet until today.

maybe i'll buy one of them bike shirts while i'm at it. u can't wear those helmets without a matching biking shirt. it just don't look right. and i'm not talking about fashion. haha

i ended my day watching the manongs play chess on powell street. those cats are good. they were betting each other and shit. one dude asked me to play but i refrained. had to go home.

next time...

SEPTEMBER
since it's my day off from jogging, i had a few minutes to kill with the idiot box. was flipping around looking for something trading spaces-ish or nba-related when i came across this commercial. imagine...

a white girl riding a bike, dressed up in some pheasant wear... marking this year's fall fashion available at...

at least i think that's what they call them kind of clothes. but here's the twist.
they're playing the intro to earth wind & fire's "september" over it. before it breaks into the main verse and before i find out what happens to the white girl on the bike, i do something that every respectable earth wind & fire fan should do...

turn that shit off.

hell no ya'll corporate heads aren't gonna ruin that song for me. i will NOT relate your product to one of my favorite songs of all time.

instead i popped my earth wind & fire greatest hits cd (i have it on vinyl too!) and blast "september" in my room while i get ready for work.

resistance is not futile...

MUSIC, THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
last night after field study, i went to costco to buy gas. i was bumpin billie holiday's "for heaven sake" and the gas station attendant some 20-something white boy walks up and starts cleaning the gas machine i'm using. he hears the music blaring out of my car and he jokingly says to me

"what u listening to? some disney music?"

i tell him that it's billie holiday, and i that i can understand how it can sound like disney music. i don't think he knew who billie was because he just walked away and continued to clean his pumps

haha, that last sentence sounds nasty. but that's what he was doing...

anyway... i digress... back to my story.

so an older lady is using the pump parallel to mine and she peeps her head out to see who could possibly be listening to billie.

"so you like billie holiday, huh? she's great"

and i said yeh, she is... but i prefer sarah vaughn or nina simone. she then commented on how it was nice to see someone "my age" listening to billie's kind of music.

"bitch, i'm twenty-fuckin-nine. i'm not exactly that young..."

...was what i was thinking in my head, but of course i wouldn't ever say such a thing. instead i smiled and said thanks. i also told her my favorite was astrud gilberto (girl from ipanema, corcovado fame).

it sucks to look young.

THRIFT STORE ESCAPADES
today i discovered that you can buy any type of glassware at thrift stores up here in sacto. i already hit up thrift stores for the record selection. i can always count on finding a few things i can use for my music. but i've been looking for some wine glasses for a while and i haven't bought any because it's an unnecessary purchase. drinking wine out of a juice glass is good enough for this grad student for now.

anyway, i hit up a few thrift stores and discovered an overabundance of all sorts of glasses. martini glasses, wine glasses, champagne. u name it, they have it there. of course they all don't match, but there are a few that come in pairs.

i picked up three martini glasses and two red wine glasses. i paid 49 cents for each martini glass and 77 cents each for the wine glasses. hopefully, i can have enough to open my own bar in about a year or so. haha, talk about ghetto fabulous.

so if u ever need to pick up some glassware, hit up a thrift store before making it out to ikea you won't be sorry.

memories of me & u
play back in my mind
like timeless 8mm movies
funny how the editor
managed to leave out
all the good fight scenes
and pieced together
this lovely silent montage
of laughter,
hugs & kisses
not to mention
glorious shots
of your hair
playing in the sunlight
as i hold u
and u hold me
it looks inviting
but deceiving
i can't seem to
turn away
the movie plays
occasionally
seamed together perfectly
looping the same images together
almost infallible
hard to believe this was the past
in reality
a lot of it was fighting
misunderstandings and quiet nights
but the stuff in between all that shit
sticks outs in my head
like the first
golden rays of sun
peeking through
after a storm
my love for u was
real, concrete
and a fuckin art form
so why did i feel beat up
betrayed, disappointed
and disheartened
and that was even before
u were gone
something went wrong
but the movie plays on

QUOTE, UNQUOTE
"A recent poll indicated that nearly 70 percent of Americans believed Saddam probably was personally involved [in the 9/11 attacks]."

currently there is no proof of that and bush can't help but deny this fact, especially now that he's getting criticism regarding his tying saddam to 9/11

oh what a tangled web we weave. i wonder how this will look like in history books about a hundred years from now.

THE THINGS I LEARN
i pull in to work, a lil bitter and down from the night before. as i park, i notice the car across from me has a sponge bob sunshade on.

spongebob said to me "this is the best day ever"

to which i couldn't help but laugh and agree with his succinct observation.
this is the best day because it's now. the past has already happened, and the future is yet to come. so from now on i'm gonna try to live everyday like spongebob.

thanks spongebob.

LIGHT YA ASS ON FIRE
decided to do a lil experiment today in the studio. tried to recreate the drums to "light ya ass on fire" on the neptune's new album, "clones" or whatever it's called. that beat is hot.

anyway, i used an 808 kit and put a gated reverb on it... and presto...

my ass was lit on fire.

after that, i decided to try to write a ballad. got a few lines down, but i gave up.

it's just not my bag i guess...

RIPPED OFF
last night, i got beaned in the eye while playing basketball. wasn't paying attention and the ball got me right in the eye.

now i have this weird spot that won't go away. i debated last night whether or not to go to kaiser's ER, but i decided against wasting away in the waiting room.

i decided to see how it was in the morning.

when i woke up, the spot is still there. fuck. drove to kaiser, and to my amazement, didn't have to wait that long. usually, the ER is packed but i guess saturday at 9am is a good time to get fucked up.

anyway... i get looked at, nothing's wrong so that's cool. had the whole eye dialated and what not. but one thing did mess me up this morning.

i had to pay $100 for that visit.

right now i'm beyond shocked. i mean in reality, it's for peace of mind and to make sure i didn't have a detached retina or something like that right? but fuck. $100 bucks? last time i was in the ER it only cost me $25. (dislocated thumb) what justifies fuckin quadrupling the price?

i have no idea.

i think i'm not as upset about this for 2 reasons. one being that my eye is ok. and two, i'm going to call kaiser on monday morning and raise hell.

until then... in the famous words of chef from south park...

"wear safety goggles at all times, childrens "

HEATED
today was a long day proceded by a long night. i currently am very angry. i haven't gotten this mad in a while. i don't want to get into it, but i just want to share this.

hitting the shit out of ur punching bag does not make things better.

i thought i would get all the aggression out in a healthy way by wailing on my punching bag, but that just made me winded and my adrenaline pumping. at least my punching bag is all even again. the sand was starting to settle at the bottom. haha

actually, i'm starting to feel better laughter is truly the best medicine. thank you reader's digest.

WHOOPS
ok so it's september now? what the fizzle happened to summer? i started school already about say 3 weeks ago, although i didn't even realize it. i've been prepping for my field study placement at this agency called "another choice, another chance"
they work with youth with substance abuse issues and i will be training there as a therapist. i've had to meet with hoards of people, learn hoards of paperwork and sign hoards of forms.

ok so i didn't really sign hoards of forms

anyway... long story short, i will be starting this week.

oh and in case u didn't notice, i had to redesign because i accidentally erased my old navigation page on katalyst. hence the return to ksb. i figured it was time to change anyway.

katalyst will be back shortly, albeit at a different location
