HOLLYWOOD IS NOT BETTER THAN REAL LIFE
as most of ya'll probably know, one of hollywood's own arnold "the terminator" schwarzenegger is first in the recall line in calif's wonderfully wacky gubernatorial special election.

when i saw schwarzenegger speak for the first time, i couldn't take him seriously. i imagined him getting very angry, saying those fuckin cliches he always says about how he'll be back or how he says "hasta la vista" to proper spanish pronunciation. hilarious.

what schwarzenegger (damn that word is hard to spell) said yesterday however trumps all that shit with authority. last night on the news, schwarzenegger talked about his stance on various controversial issues (read: shit the american public likes to stick their noses into). here's his stance on "gay marriage"...

"I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman,"

what the fuck. ok so obviously, he meant "marriage" and not "gay marriage." like cnn.com says, it was a misstatement because he was being bombarded with questions.

it's one thing to say it, but not correcting it or catching the mistake makes me laugh.

gary coleman for governor.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM
i have been eerily calm considering i will be trying to adjust to a bunch of new changes in my life. school starts next week and i have been busy trying to set up my field study.

i have to work 65 hours per unit and have to finish 8 units to graduate. i'm trying to do 5 right now in one semester so that means 20 hours a week.

20 hours of free service. i don't get paid for field study.

luckily my job is understanding of my scheduling hassles and are not trippin' about the fact that i have to reduce my hours at work.
otherwise, i'm kinda looking forward to field study, however i know it's gonna be intense.

i'll be working at another agency called "another choice another chance" that works with youth that have substance abuse issues or are in trouble with school, etc... basically, people who don't think they need counseling or want to be counselled.

it's gonna be interesting to say the least...

on top of that, the 30% tuition increase is looming in the darkness. luckily i only have one semester left before i graduate.

its' been a long three years.

ONE MAN BAND
this weekend, i headed out to the bay to do a plethora of things. first thing i did was play ball with my boys at our old alma mater, st' pats. haven't played in a while so it was good to get that workout in. i had a few good games and we won the first series.

the main thing i did was to go to the doghouse comedy jam. dave chapelle, tommy davidson, and pablo francisco were the main comedians. and let's not forget everyone's favorite comedian (pun intended) carlos mencia. turns out we were late to the show because a few of our people got stuck in traffic on the way down from sac. not good. we ended up spending three hours in the car trying to exit the freeway to get to shoreline.

that was bullshit.

never ever ever never ever get to shoreline late for an event. we missed half the show because of it. anyways.... all's well that ended well.

SOLO
on sunday, i cruised down to SF to do nothing in particular and to gallavant. i wanted to do a trip by myself. however, i found myself calling people to see what they were doing. not good if you're trying to do an alone day. some of the peeps flaked out anyway so i got my wish and trekked through the urban jungles of downtown SF. next time i'll start earlier so i can head out to the beach. it was late in the afternoon on a sunday when i went, so the beach trip will have to wait. next time i'm bringing my bike for sure. i felt so bound to stay in walking distances of BART. i was too chicken to go anywhere farther, since it was a sunday and things were bout to close.

HANDYMAN
today i got one of my fillings redone at the dentist's office. my dentist is this guamanian dude in vallejo. he's pretty conscious and aware of the liberal scene. talk about keeping the money in the neighborhood. i refuse to get a dentist in sac... i don't want anyone else's hands in my mouth.

back in sac, i took the rest of the day off and made a hutch for my computer desk. i now have more storage. i gerryrigged two small shelves and nailed a piece of wood to the top to create a hutch. now all i haev to do is clean the mess i made making that shit.

work is never done...

Southern Myths

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has been told that "Southern Hospitality" is the best, but the past couple of days, I've experienced otherwise.

Whatever happened to "How you doin?" or the very basic "Thank you." Either people hate their jobs, hate living in the south, or are just having a bad day because I think maybe only one person smiled thus far.

Oh, and the streets are nothing like Davis. There is no such thing as pedestrians having the right of way. You are better off waiting for the streets to be clear, that is, unless you feel like throwing in the towel.

People drive like there late to their first job interview or somethin and they're not trying to wait for nobody.

Perhaps I am being to harsh, but I thought I would share some of my recent observations.

I am sure they don't mean anything by what I think is straight "rudeness."

Culture...that's all it is

SEAFOOD CITY
i found out from verse's website that there was a new filipino supermarket in vallejo. my mom's been telling me about it. raving about how u can get free skyflakes for spending $20 or something like that.

not that i like skyflakes. those shits are made with palm oil and shit. you might as well stick paste directly into your aorta. but that's another story for another day.

anyway...

i went around and saw all the new stuff coming to vallejo. max's chicken, tatak pilipino, etc etc... i was pretty hyped that vallejo is finally getting some filipino businesses. they should move jollibee over there too. it's down the street right now.

so i go shopping and i almost went ape shit in there. first of all, it was morning and i didn't eat yet.

not a good idea.

"never shop on an empty stomach" goes the saying. i can add "never shop on an empty stomach at a store that has all your favorite filipino snacks that you haven't had in years since you moved away from the bay"

i picked up some buy 1 get 1 free tocilog. some hot longanisa, some filipino corn nuts (fried corn pieces). i liked how they said the snack was "healthy and delicious" but then had the world "fried" in it's title. i somehow doubted it's nutritional value.

i bought the shit anyway cuz it tastes good. i also got some garlic and onion chips (a la shrimp chimp technology) and other shit.

luckily my freezer is trippin, or else i would have bought more shit.

i closed the shopping spree off with a visit to valerio's bakery. they have the best pan de sal in northern cali. hella good.

SPANDEX
no, i'm not wearing it, but i feel like it. stretched too thin. i'm supposed to be in summer, but already i can feel the pull of the oncoming semester. it's time to take some time off.

i have a tendency of trying to save vacation hours. you never know when u may need to take an emergency day off. but then again. i think being burned out is an emergency. wouldn't you agree?

i'm also a little disappointed that the music thing isn't working like i thought it was going to this summer. i haven't really done anything but meet with people and agree that we will be working on stuff. unknown soldiers have been banging down my door. we need to find them a singer. til then our stuff is still incomplete.

is there anyone out there that can hella sing and wants to do some vocals?

let me know...
