MEETINGS FO DAYS BRAH

ok, i've been gone for a few days, that's cuz i've been busy... sorry... like it matters here anyway huh... hhah like anyone reads this. anyway...
let me break it down for u..

thursday, i had like 3 meetings... 2 for FAYLC and one for work. was supposed to hook up with the Tongan group up here, but the youth were unable to attend so we had to reschedule. met dr. ikeda at this place called health for hall.. he's dope. he told me about his run-ins with UC admin. and how he bucked the system.. jiyeah power to the people.

friday we took our dad fishing. the first of many outings with dad according to our father's day present to him; a fishing trip every other friday for the summer. we drove down to freeport by the sac river and tried to catch some catfish. my bro got this stinky ass blood/cheese combo stuff that smelled rank. mom said it smelled like "[our dog] butch's caca" haha it was funny the way she said it. u had to be there. anyway we didn't catch shit, but at least we got to kick it u know... i got a bite or 2... and hella snags. my bro caught two small stripers but had to throw em back.

that night erica and I watched "Pootie Tang" the movie. like pootie says "wada tai" but this movie is def not for the "tippy tai's" so leave them at home. i thought the shit was funny. erica couldn't stand it. and get this. she thought master p's "i got the hook up" was funny. (secret hidden meaning: she's easily amused) so ladies, u might want to watch something else.

today, i took 2 youth that i work with at APCC to get some computers that they were given from this nonprofit alliance up here in sac called CAPITAL. we got to kick it for a few hours. took them to lunch and i dropped em off. yo it was a fatty reality check to see where they lived. it helped put some things in perpsective for me. onward with the struggle.

HMMM

what do u do when someone doesn't believe in what you say to them? especially if it's about how a person feels? i've never experienced that before and it kinda sucks. i dunno... in this case it matters a lot since it deals with a certain individual with advanced status in my life. for once, i'm at a loss for words. i'm mad and sad at the same time.

didn't get to play our regular basketball game today, had to settle for 21 instead, got to play with the woman though. that was fun. she has a better shot than i do...

SOME "OTHA SHIT"

is the name of the song we did this weekend at studio 8625. 3 members of rhyme scheme came thru (furious styles, verse and jamila) and laid down lyrical lashings to the rhythms i provided. the product is a west coast driven cut, one of the first i've done in a looong time. (with the exception of "hittin' harder by the unknown soldiers)

being from the wessyde, it's ironic that most of my beats don't have that "west coast" sound... some have called my ish more east coast influenced and others just don't know what the hell to call my ish... but hey, you know what? i give a damn what they think. *holding sack* bottom line though, i have to represent the west at least once on my CD and this just might be the track, we'll see... depending if the migthy RS'ers are down to put it on the comp.

ahhhh, it's good to be from the west.

BLITZIN' IN BERKELEY

yo, our show at Kip's in Berkeley was fun as hell! torch, cwrek1, verse, furious styles & cook jenk rocked the place. i sat in the back and made sure the CD didn't skip. haha i only brought one skratchin record so i was kinda assed out. besides, most of the skratchin was pre-recorded so i could just sit back and pick my nose while they perform. we did 5 songs, blitz, wordsmiths, why'd u do it, illest soldier and ended the show with rebirth.

people were jumpin around and shit, man it was weird to see heads feelin my music like that. i sat back and it almost was like i wasn't there, my eyes floated around the audience and looked for nodding heads and hands in the air and there they were! i was like, "whoa, u actually like this shit? cool..." anyways, groundbasics were up after us and they rocked it just as hard. it was a bay area/vallejo reunion up in that piece. mighty fun.

REPPIN' THE MIGHTY "W"

right now as i blog, emcee's verse, furious styles and jamila from rhyme scheme are in the studio tryin to write to this west coast beat i put together. back to work... peace

this weekend's gonna be packed, i prob won't be writin on here for a hot sec as i handle my biz. saturday, furious styles is comin to studio8625 to lay down more hits for his platinum debut. sunday is the pyc meeting at sac state. 40+ people we're gonna bum rush the union cuz we have no better place. aight, enough for now, time to cut... peace

SOCK TANS AND PAINFULLY HOT STEERING WHEELS

summer time always gets me in these 2 areas. right now i'm chillin in the tsinelas (pronounced "chin EL as." bicultural alliteration!) trying to get rid of this damn sock tan. at least it ain't as bad as the long shin socks we used to wear back in the day. my old ass has been slow to adapt to the new trend of lower socks. i kinda miss the days of the archaic "tube sock." my brother and i would fight over the ones with the black and orange or yellow and green because we both wanted to rep the sf giants and oakland A's ey'day, nahmean... you were ultra cool in 3rd grade if you rocked the black and silver tube socks or the red and gold ones, yay area football fans know what i'm talkin bout.

another of the very few crappy things about summer is driving in a car that has no A/C. this of course only happened back in the day with my first set of wheels, my 1980 plymouth arrow. it was just like the one in this pic, minus the souped up racing parts, gaudy stickers and paint job. i had 2 10" woofers in the back of that mug and i rocked a 100 watt amp. i rocked pyramid equipment only, the straight flea market favorite brand of car audio, up there right next to pyle and pyle pro. haha anyway my old car is an ENTIRELY diff topic which i will have to get down and dirty with another time. anyway... yeah that car had an entire black interior. real genuine polyvinyl chloride (read: fake leather) and the steering wheel was black too and that shit would burn the hell out of my hands every summer. mind you this was back in the days before they came out with sunshades and when they finally did they had them cardboard ones that had the fuckin sunglasses on them... remember that shit? then everyone would put up the wrong side of the shade that read "EMERGENCY: NEED HELP PLEASE CALL 911" so u didn't know if they were stranded or just parked at the mall.

damn that's old school...

anyway, nowadays i rock an oldsmobile achieva (yeah i know, one of the few pinoys out there that don't have a japanese car) everyone and their mommas got imports. my family is the exception to that stereotype. oh and we use aquafresh instead of colgate! mufuckas! how's that for breaking the mold? i digress... thank god for the plastic sunshades with the reflective material on it. those are a necessity up here in sac. today it's supposed to be a cool 105. anything over 100 deserves an automatic day off, don't u think?

BANANAS...

are what i need to eat cuz my body is sore from playin out my hoop dreams in the 95+ degree weather yesterday. i love the 3 on 3 half court games we got goin on in front of the house, it keeps me exercising, so fit and so clean (clean). my game isn't the best but i do my part on defense and i play hard, dammit. i only got a jump hook goin for me and if i get lucky, my turn around jumpers fall in. it beats running that's for sure. that shit can get boring.

i bought this table from ikea, it's kinda wack, the shit turned out to be hollow so i dunno if it's gonna hold with my ish. i also think i have to reinstall the legs cuz i put them too far from the corners, they don't seem sturdy. yeah, i'm the type of guy that don't read the directions till after i'm done assembling something and wonder why there's a few extra screws left over in the pile. anyway, i'm trying to update the furniture in my studio so that it looks more like a studio and not an 8 ft banquet table with a shitload of expensive equipment on it. with all the stuff i'm doing though, i think i'll be all done remodeling by july. prrrt. i'm so busy it's sickening, thank god for blogger or u wouldn't hear a damn thing from me. can't bust out with new html everyday and wait for my 33.6k modem to upload each file... and i'm out...

BACK TO WORK

ahh, there's nothing like driving back to sacramento at around 4:30 in the afternoon, the hottest part of the day. there's this thing i used to do when i would come home from work at UCD Asian American Studies. driving on highway 50, there's this clock on a billboard that also gives the temperature. if it's over 100, i turn the a/c off, roll down all the windows and yell "BRING IT ON!!!!" yeah, weird i know, but i think it's my own subtle little way of acclimating to the desert like temperatures up here in the sacramento valley.

anyway, yesterday i was driving back from SF and it was getting hot as soon as i hit vacaville, when i got near sac i decided to relive the past and embrace the 30 degree climate change between SF and Sac. the a/c went off, the windows came down and damn was that mess hot. but as i passed that billboard with the clock i was shocked to see that it was only 98 degrees. mere child's play. i can't wait till it gets to 105 this week. time to clean the pool.

A LOVELY LITTLE JAUNT TO THE "SUCKA FREE" SFC

one of my favorite things to do when i come home to the bay is embrace the jagged skyline of SF. yesterday i got to do just that as i rolled deep in the olds and headed to the macarthur BART station in Oakland. as ever the BART ride is always an exciting experience, this time no fights or anything, just a bunch of odd lookin' folk keepin to themselves. i'd love to see what's goin thru their heads.

for some reason, i take on a different persona when i'm by myself in SF. i start muggin everyone, keep my head low, shoulders square, chest out. i think it's
some sort of vestigial tough boy mode that i acquired growing up in vallejo. 4 years at UC Davis does alot to soften a person and boy did it mellow me out. i think i lost some of my edge, but what i lost in my street sense and sensiblity, i more than made up in self-confidence. what the hell was my point again? oh yeah... anyway, i'm just a lil different when i walk around SF alone.

anyway, one of the first things that i encountered as i got off the BART station was a sight i never really seen before. coming up the escalator, my ears were greeted by the sounds of a string section. canon in D i think. i looked to see where the music was coming from and i was surpised to see 3 teenagers playing violins. first thing i did was look at the clothes these cats were wearing. nike tennis shirt on the young asian american boy, banana republic t-shirts on the 2 euro-american girls.

"what the hell is this???"

i thought to myself as i walked out of the BART station. these cats were obviously from the 'burbs and not your average street performer. i'm used to seeing human robots or bongo playin' hippie's but never a trio of teens from marin playin' classical music for chump change. very interesting. i thought it was some kind of school project, but these fools were collecting change?!?!?! i wonder what their story is. oh well, i guess it's better than workin fast food. (no offense to the burger flippers out there)

it's 7am and i feel really rested. met up with TOP from groundbasics last night, he liked the remix of our song. let me hear some of his album, pretty dope. for all of you yay area heads, both of our crews are going to perform at kip's in berkeley on friday night. groundbasics and identity crisis. that should be fun. hopefully i can make it. i think it should be ok.

heading to SF today to meet with the people at the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF). going to discuss stufff for my work at APCC in sacramento. oh btw, i work for a nonprofit as director of the anti-tobacco program, but don't worry, if u smoke, i still got love for ya. i think that a lot of the anti-tobacco stuff out there right now kinda lambastes smokers. i mean how do expect people to quit if you are telling everyone else that these people are rotten and "uncool" cuz they smoke? if we're trying to get people to smoke why are we making fun of them?

anyway, i digress, not all the ads are like that, but a good majority of them are like that, with the exception of thetruth.com. now THAT's a good way to get people to stop smoking. anyway, that's all for now, i have to get ready for work, peace

it's father's day today, happy father's day to all the dads out there. also to all the graduates, kudos. among the noted graduates, darlingpny, aya1127, michizkichi, idez and whoever else is out there that i forgot. mah bad.

anyway, for father's day me and my bro are gonna take pops fishing every other friday. got him a fishing license and we're good to go like domino, defying gravity... geronimo... er um.. yeah... sorry... got caught up in a vibe there.

last night i watched traffic. it was pretty good... my friend the langka queen was telling me about the movie and how it's kinda depressing to see how bad the war on drugs is. when i watched it, i could feel some of that malaise kick in, but for the most part, i thought the movie actually reaffirmed my philosophy when it comes to humanity (in america at least)... we all get caught up in trying to fix things or "make things right" since we are an altruistic bunch by nature. we may tend to lose sight of the big picture and can only wallow in how bad things are.

to me, the war on drugs, just like any other thing in this world, is a massive collection of events that occur over time. the sum of these events is our reality. but all we see is the fucked up side of things, the conglomeration of events such as drug busts, crackbabies, drug lords offing rival gangs etc etc. these events occur at a global level and are so big that we forget they are the result of many tiny little events that occur over time. events such as a crackhead selling a vcr for 10 bucks (did an image of a black man pop into your head just now? think about THAT shit! why do u think that happened?), watching uma thurman shoot up in pulp fiction, a mishap at your local drug czar's secret hidden drug lab that shoots the price of crack up by 50%. freebasing all of the sudden becomes expensive. from the glamorization of drugs in movies, to the end result of people selling belongings to get a quick fix, all these events culminate in one big ol gigantic war on drugs.

in the movie traffic, i likened myself to the afro american FBI agent who was staking out this one chick. the movie made a point to make his valiant efforts against the "evil" (who's really evil in this world anyway) drug people look very small and futile. but yet he persisted and kept on doing what he was doing because he knew that even his little effort would make a difference. to me, that event was symbolized by him planting the bug under the table at the end. i know, the peeps that didn't watch it yet are getting all pissy cuz i told u what happens, look... it's not like i told u how he dies at the end or something... oops my bad... haha. anyway, bottom line, that movie me help me reaffirm my own philosophical steez, my own twist on life, if u will... go watch it and talk to your kids/brothers/sisters/lovers about drugs after. and don't forget to tell them the truth about drugs too...

WE BE CLUBBIN'

*yawn* got back from the club late last night, ok so like the sun was up already when we got home at around 5am. we went to this dj thing last night called "da joint" at rawhide in SF. rawhide is usually a gay bar but last night was turntablist night. my homeboy dj snayk eyz (west coast dmc champ) hooked us up with the guest list and me, ctlemonade, bluefrums, mikeO, wrektangul and snaykeyz were chillin' in the cut.

this is the first time i've went out without my woman and it was kinda bootsy cuz she wasn't there. (yeah, i admit it, like big pun, i'm still not a playa so what up?) it was kinda cool to go to a club and see filipinos and other asians, unlike in sacto where it's more a mixed crowd. but mixed crowds are cool in their own respect because at least u know your chances of getting shot are minimalized with the presence of the bourgeoisie in "da house". either way, i was missin' my luvbug who was in SLO for her best friend's graduation.

anyway, i started off the night with a raspberry stoli and seven. that was pretty good. except there was more seven than stoli but hey, what do u expect for a bar at a club. then i had to friggin' teach the bartender how to make a 3 wisemen! c'mon now. isnt' that a standard??? i think i made him feel stoopid because i asked him if he knew all these other drinks.

"do u know how to make a stumblefuck? how bout a gravedigger? damn, ok how bout a 3 wisemen?"

funny thing is, i couldn't remember who was the third "wiseman." i know it's ron bacardi and jose cuervo. but i couldn't remember if the third was jack daniels or jim beam. i ultimately stuck to jack because i know him better and we've kicked it before nah'mean? ctlemonade and i took the wisemen to the head, our first shot together in a loooong time... hmmm perhaps it's time to have another get together at the crib.

even with that shot, i didn't feel a damn thing so after throwing $13 to the bar we headed out to the dancefloor. wrektangul had a friend who had a friend so i did the honorable thing and busted an "anti p-block move" and asked the "friend of the friend" to dance so the 4 of us can get out there. they were playin some vintage 95 hiphop and dancehall. it was lovely. it was almost as if we had our closest friends come together and share our mp3 collections of back in the day ish.

at 12:30 we headed up to the dj lounge and listened to snayk eyz fuck shit up right quick. he busted his 45 king's "the 900 number" (u know, the song ed lover does his dance to) routine and chopped the hell out of them horns. it was lovely. some fool was trying to skratch along with him but couldn't keep up cuz dan kept changin' the beat on him.

at around 2, i called up psychogasm who was friggin' asleep already (my bad, doctor) to see what she was up to. asked her for the directions to "lucky chances" so we can grub on some tocilog since sinugba closes earlier nowadays (i always thought it was mean that sinugba only employed one lola (tagalog for gramma) to cook late nights when all the clubbers come back from sound factory (don't act like U never been there... haah) famished. hahaah... ahhh to be 21 again.

we hit up lucky chances and found out where all the filipinos from serramonte hang out after the mall closes. at 3am there was a fatty wait for a table of six. only in the bay do u wait in line at 3am for tocilog/longsilog. after we finally got our food, wrektangul kept complaining about how he could have cooked our meals at home, to which i reminded him of his inadequate experience and skills in preparing traditional filipino spiced sausages. translated: "what, u gonna fuckin roll longanisa at your house???"

on the way home, the only thing i remember is entering the freeway after lucky chances, the next thing i see is daylight and we're in front my house... what the hell...

tomorrow i'm heading out to vallejo... it's always fun going back home. get to see the family and the dog. our dog is 12 now, he just had an operation to remove a cyst on top of his ass. u would think it would slow him down but mom says the little f%ck#r was running around as soon as he got home from the vet

anyway... talked to phenoMiNA today online... haven't talked to her in forever deep. her and her hello kitty ass... (just jokes, love...)
haha... it's like 90 degrees in sac right now.. played hoop and sweating like no tomm... *hitting the shower*...

Lakers in 6... dammit. c'mon sixers, get the next one... go underdog... (embittered kings fan)
