Midwest Greetings!
School started yesterday. It's a pretty easy schedule actually. My earliest class is at 930 on Mon/Wed and 215 on Tues/Thurs, with no class on Friday. How awesome is that? I better get good at this singing thing with all that time to practice eh?
On the bad side, my financial aid is stuck somewhere in the place between limbo and the netherworld, and a check that was supposed to come from SF State in July still hasn't showed up in my mailbox.
But, on the flipside, I got a free CTA (Chicago's MUNI equivalent) pass, which is as if I had a card in the Bay that lets me ride bus and BART for free. This weekend I'll be in Burbank for a wedding, with a flight courtesy of a good friend who has Southwest hookups.
On a sadder note (well for me, that is) the celebrated tenor Luciano Pavarotti passed away today in his home in Modena.
He is best known for his rendition of Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", but what made him a household name within the classical voice community was his ability to sing what is considered (among us light Tenors, at least) to be one of the signature tenor arias (it contains nine High Cs), Gaetano Donizetti's "Ah Mes Amis". Fast forward one minute in and you'll hear the high Cs.
