Congratulations AJ...
On the last day of school AJ "graduated" from Kindergarten! With a potluck in every classroom their teachers gave each child a certificate, "memory box", and a packet of artwork for them to take home. All the kindergarteners took pictures with a grad cap on that were given to the parents. And of course AJ had his big smile ready for the camera! Yes, we have it posted on top of our fireplace.
AJ has come a long way. January 18, 2005 was his first day at pre-school (Traditional I). I still remember having difficult mornings with him to get him ready, and at times, when it came to me walking out the classroom. Yes, it breaks every momma's heart (that's why you see most of them watching through the classroom window).
Montessori was a different experience for both AJ and Mio, but one I am thankful for. It has a different learning system than traditional classrooms, but it really requires one on one attention from the teacher. Although the child is given the freedom to select the "jobs" in the designated areas, a teacher can also ask for a certain job to ensure that his/her skills are developing. That is how AJ learned how to tie his own shoes, learned the 7 continents, and knows so much about amphibians, reptiles, and such. He even knows when his book isn't "challenging enough"!!
Thank you ELC for teaching my son all that he knows, and for preparing him for 1st grade... yes...OMG-- he is in the numbers now!
