Awsome and I have been looking for cool brunch places here on the Peninsula side and haven't had much luck. Yes..there's Stacks and Crepevine, but those places still have that diner..chain feel to it you know... So finally I took up my co-workers recommendation to check out Nini's. Oh man..talk about a hidden treasure in San Mateo/Burlingame.

It's Saturday morning and I couldn't remember the name clearly. I tried doing opentable.com and of course it wasn't listed. And so then I tried citysearch.com, also wasn't listed. Finally I think I just used Yahoo's search engine and finally found the location. It's actually called Nini's Coffee Shop. It's tucked away in this little neighborhood/ mini industrial area along the freeway. Anyhow, after rounding about a few times lookin for it, I finally landed pimp parking right in the front. Of course it's almost noon time and there's a wait outside. At least they serve coffee and water outside while you wait...just like Stacks!!!

Thinking that there might be a wait, we walk inside to find 4 seats empty right at the counter. Hey, if I get service right away, i'm cool w/ the counter than waiting for a table for 20 minutes. So we plop ourselves right down and start staring at the huge board above us. GOOD GRIEF!! They're menu is so extensive. From omlettes to sandwiches to pancakes to steak and eggs, your average brunch place... Speaking of..they're only open for breakfast and lunch. So what did we order, I ordered the Cajun Pork Chops and Awsome had the teriyaki steak and eggs, and both our plates came w/ home fried potatos and rye toast! Oh man!!! Can I just tell you I love Columbo's Rye Bread!!!! YUM!!!! Why is it always so good when you order it at a restaurant, but when you buy it yourself for home..it's sits.... well that's in my case.

We waited roughly 10-15 minutes for our order, but we had our coffee to keep us company and each other and let alone the people around us and the wait staff... I'd have to say these people have some character to match the coffee shop. There's all sorts of memorablilia and memories in that shop. They originally were founded in S.F. but ended up movin their shop to San Mateo. 2nd generation I believe is running it now. Make sure you read the back of your menu... Tells you about their history. Our food finally came and went. Next time I'm getting that teriyaki steak!!! What's also cute is that they have a back patio that you can sit in too.... I've gotta bring Voodoo and the crew there one day. Especially on a warm sunny day!!!! But hey..it's in San Mateo....it's practically always sunny and warm out that way right????
