Sitzprobe

It's getting closer. Tomorrow night, we get one step closer to a semester long goal: the performance of W.A. Mozart's "Die Zauberflote" [The Magic Flute].

We've had the vocal coachings. We've done about two months of blocking and staging, not to mention the actual acting of the opera. The set is just about finished and the shift rehearsal [that's the one where all the moving of props and sets is organized] was just completed tonite. And tomorrow, is the sitzprobe.

A sitzprobe is the first full rehearsal with the orchestra. There's no blocking of acting. We will just be singing, accompanied by the SFSU orchestra and conducted by our guest conductor, Michael Borowitz. And, as music majors, this is what we've been waiting for: actual singing with a live orchestra.

I'll let you know how it went.
