Today I went to the bank after work to deposit an 18.00 check. Yeah, it's a small check but damnit I need the money. So anyways, I was at one of three ATM machines outside. Next to me were two elderly Filipina ladies. They looked "fresh off the boat" if you know what I mean...mismatched colored clothes, neon green socks, pink sweater, blue shirt...the works. They looked like they were just doing regular transactions so I paid no more attention to them. All of a sudden one of them walks up to me as I'm punching in my pin number and says, "I hab to call my doh ter." I say, "Uhh ok...so call her." She replies, "I put 75 in the machine and I hab to call my doh ter." I finish up my transaction and walk over to where the other old lady is standing and I ask both of them kindly, "ok what can I help you with." They both say, "we are trying to make a call" and they point towards the ATM machine. I was dumbfounded, confused, yet amused. I look inside the deposit receptacle and find 3 quarters jammed inside. AH!! Now I know what they meant about "putting 75 in the machine." It all made sense now, yet it baffled me how anyone could mistake an ATM machine for a public telephone. I walk into the bank and had the customer service greeter lady help them make that all important call. Hilarious. Okay you had to be there.

So I get home and I'm working on redoing the roof with my dad (replacing the old wood shingles with the new fire-proof kind). We hear this faint meeoowwing from a distance and realize there's a cat stuck in the roof somewhere. Luckily we found it was an area we haven't worked on yet, so all we had to do was lift off some shingles (after guessing where the hell the cat was in the first place) and then hopefully be able to pull the cat out. We were surprised to find that it wasn't a cat, but rather a kitten. We pulled it out, I set it down and minutes later the mother cat came and pulled it away. Then, two more sets of mmeeoowws. Two more kittens stuck in the same area. Pulled them out too, and are now waiting for their mom to come pick them up.

Enginerd Wisdom

- There are three schools of magic. One: State a tautology, then ring the changes on its corollaries; that's philosophy. Two: Record many facts. Try to find a pattern. Then make a wrong guess at the next fact; that's science. Three: Be aware that you live in a malevolent Universe controlled by Murphy's Law, sometimes offset by Brewster's Factor; that's engineering.-
