was in LA for a wedding over the weekend. Promptly plopped myself onto the couch as soon as I got back to SF. Lo and behold, what's on tv? "You've got mail". Talk about the universe trying to put the romance in my life.
It was really really nice to see all my friends coupled up and settling down. But it must be disconcerting that I haven't done the same. My friend, K, who was the other dateless person there, is a non-believer of marriage, but she's got the boyfriend. I suppose the rest of the folks forgive her therefore for showing up without a date. I, on the other hand, have no excuse.
It isn't quite so horrid being without a date. I think it's worse if you bring a date and you end up having to entertain that person because you're putting him through this whole ceremonial business. I say that with a conviction because I truly hate being the "date" at someone's wedding. I don't know the people, I'm not particularly happy for the bride/ groom cos I don't know them anyway... and on top of that, I NEVER get the inside jokes when the toast is made.
I move to propose that wedding invitations invite a party of one (not two).
