Aloha! I got back from Oahu last Wednesday, and slowly but surely am readjusting to life here in 'da Mainland.
I love vacation. I love tropical islands. Vacationing at tropical islands is like 1 + 1 = 3.
What I miss most about Hawaii:
beautiful local girls at Sandy Beach, tanning tourists at Waikiki, chinelas and shorts 24/7, beautiful local girls at the mall, sun, sand, clear water, cooling rain, beautiful local girls dancing hula, plate lunches at L & L Drive Inn, BUD LIGHT, spam musubi, did I mention beautiful local girls?
One thing about Hawaii that I wasn't a big fan of was the "Island Music," AKA "Jawaiian" style, sort of a mix of reggae that has a Hawaiian flavor. I think one reason why is because I associate it with island life -- cruisin' around, kicking back and chillin', which basically describes most of the Hawaiian lifestyle, and living in the Bay is hardly island like, especially sunLESS Daly City. I'm happy to say now that I am a fan, but back here, it's better to listen to at home when you wanna relax.
So anyway, I went along with my two brothers and my cousin and we pretty much abstained from the hiphop/pop/mainstream junk that is pretty much the rage of the urban generation. We especially like "Shores of Waiehu" by Ekolu, which, while musically very simple, contains a catchy chorus that pretty much summarized the relaxed elation that we felt while on the island.
The other song that I brought back with me is an older one. "Forevermore" is by Side A Band, a group from the Philippines. The wedding that I was in [see pic below] was for my Uncle, and he and his wife decided to have something different than just the standard "Here Comes the Bride" so he asked his friend to make a CD of songs and ultimately picked it out. The funny thing was that a week later, at another wedding, my cousin and his wife used the exact same song for the entrance!
Here's the wedding party at our picture taking at Kuoloa Golf Course in Kaneohe.
Geez, my mind is still there, chillin' on the beach somewhere.
If you wanna listen to that "Island Music" here's some streaming radio from one of the stations we listened to: KCCN FM 100
