YOU GUYS MISSED AN AWESOME CONCERT ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!!

The
SFSU Chamber Singers had their end up the semester concert at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on 18th and Diamond in the Castro last Friday. It was phenomenal. We started it out with some Renaissance pieces [in Latin] and then ended the first set with a joint Vivaldi/Bach Magnificat, which featured some virtuoso solos by some of our singers. I particularly liked the coloratura solo by one of our sopranos. But all the first half solos were cool. The only thing that sucked was standing there on the choir risers for about 15 minutes in shoes that hurt your feet. I could have sworn that if I didn't make sure I was breathing properly I might have passed out.
The second half consisted of more contemporary pieces, ending with a piece inspired by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, an African American spiritual "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" [soloist Kristine Sinajon] and finally, our encore, "El Hambo" was in a made up language, an ode to the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show. Despite the pouring rain, our audience was nice and big and gave us a nice ovation at the end. I hope some of you guys can make it in the spring -- you'd definitely be in for a treat!

You just gotta listen to "El Hambo"
